The Laquan McDonald Act (or Laquan Law for short) is an important piece of legislation that will soon be up for vote in the Illinois General Assembly. This law is set to change many of the obsolete, antiquated, and oft times blatantly racist policies that prop up the criminal INJUSTICE system in Illinois. The law bears the name of Chicago teen Laquan McDonald who was murdered on video by a cop named jason van dyke. van dyke shot McDonald 16 times and many of the shots were fired while the teen lay incapacitated on the ground. We know this due to the efforts of community organizer William Calloway, president of the Chicago based community organization Christianaire. William Calloway filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to obtain the video depicting McDonald's murder. After months of obstruction by the city of Chicago, and with the help of independent journalist Brandon Smith, the video was released and the truth was made clear.
A portion of the the sales of this garment will go to help fund Mr. Calloway's continued efforts as he works on behalf of the victims of police violence.
